Toronto Caribbean Carnival 2022

Originally launched in 1967, the carnival—often still called Caribana—has grown into one of the largest Caribbean cultural festivals in North America. Each year, the Grand Parade fills the streets with masqueraders wearing elaborate mas costumes of feathers, beads, and bright fabrics, moving to the rhythms of soca and Caribbean music.

I wasn’t able to stay long that day as I had another photography shoot scheduled, but I couldn’t miss the chance to stop by and capture a few moments. Even in a short visit, the energy of the parade was impossible to miss — vibrant costumes, music trucks rolling through the streets, and crowds celebrating along the route.

These images capture a few glimpses of the 2022 Grand Parade, showing the colour, movement, and atmosphere that make Toronto’s Caribbean Carnival one of the city’s most recognizable summer events.
