After the Storm: A Midtown Walk

On January 15, 2026, as a major snowstorm eased across Toronto, I walked along Yonge Street from Davisville to Summerhill Station. Heavy snowfall earlier in the day had narrowed sidewalks, slowed traffic, and left cleanup underway as conditions gradually improved.

Schools were closed for the day, and many businesses along Yonge Street remained shut or only partially accessible. Snowblowers and shovels punctuated the quiet, carving narrow paths through packed snow. Pedestrians moved carefully on tight sidewalks, adjusting their routes around snowbanks, curb cuts, and uneven clearing. Children home for a snow day walked alongside adults running errands, bundled against the cold.

By the time I reached Summerhill, walking back through deep, churned snow felt like real work. Like many others, adapting plans as conditions shifted, I took the subway back to Davisville and took a few more photos before calling it a day.

These photographs document Yonge Street as snowfall tapered off and cleanup began, capturing everyday movement through midtown during changing winter conditions.
